UP AND DOWN FARISH STREET
Because of the inaugural Medgar Evers lecture series being held here in Jackson this week, we have decided to alter our full discussions on the contributions of former Mississippi Governor William (Bill) Waller … 1972 to 1976 … to the progress of African Americans in this state. And focus, for now, full attention to the lectures which are sponsored by the Medgar Evers Institute and the State Department of Archives and History. The lectures are being held in the A. Boyd Campbell Center at Millsaps College on Northwest Street here. But even with that change, it must be noted that Bill Waller is still in the mix because in 1973 he declared a statewide holiday honoring the memory and contributions of Medgar Evers to the state of Mississippi and the nation. All others who now leap to the front are merely following in Bill Waller’s footsteps. We resume the exciting chapters on Bill Waller next week, but for now we’ll Move on Down the Line!
